What independent actually means
A captive agent works for one insurance company and sells that company's products. We do not. We hold appointments with a range of regional and national carriers, which means the comparison happens before you buy rather than after you are unhappy with a renewal.
The practical difference shows up in year three. When a carrier decides it no longer wants your class of business, or pushes a rate increase that has nothing to do with your claims history, a captive agent can only pass it on. We can move the account.
How we work
Every new relationship starts with a coverage review rather than a quote. There is a difference: a quote prices what you already have, a review asks whether what you have still matches the business. Revenue moves, headcount moves, you buy a second van, you sign a contract with limits you did not previously need. Policies written three years ago rarely keep up on their own.
After that, the ordinary work matters more than the sales pitch. Certificates of insurance turned around the same day. Contract insurance requirements read before you sign rather than after. An annual exposure check that is an actual conversation. And when there is a claim, someone who deals with the adjuster alongside you instead of handing you a phone number.

We are licensed in both states, and in this region that is not a formality. A Spokane contractor with a job in Post Falls, a distributor delivering into Coeur d'Alene, a firm with a second office in Hayden — all of them create cross-border exposure that the two states treat differently, particularly for workers' compensation. Structuring for it up front is considerably cheaper than discovering it at claim time.
