Food truck insurance in Spokane

A commercial kitchen that drives itself to work. You need the restaurant coverages and the vehicle coverages at once, and events will ask for proof of both.

Your truck is your business interruption exposure

Lose the truck and you have not lost a vehicle, you have lost every dollar of revenue until it is replaced. Physical damage coverage set at actual cash value on a built-out truck is a trap — the build-out is where the money is, and depreciation does not care. Insure it on an agreed-value or stated-amount basis that reflects what it would actually cost to replace the vehicle plus the kitchen inside it.

Fire, propane and the suppression system

Fryers and propane in an enclosed metal box is a serious fire exposure, and carriers know it. A compliant hood suppression system, current inspection tags and proper propane storage are usually conditions of coverage rather than nice-to-haves. Spokane Regional Health District permitting and fire inspection run alongside this, and carriers will ask whether you are current.

Events will ask for a certificate

Festivals, breweries, farmers’ markets and private bookings almost all require a certificate of insurance, frequently naming the venue as additional insured, and frequently at short notice. Same-day certificates are standard here. If a venue wants wording your policy does not support, better to find out on the Tuesday than at the gate on the Saturday.

Biggest exposures for food trucks

  • Collision damage to a truck that is also your entire kitchen
  • Foodborne illness claims

Food Trucks insurance FAQs

Commercial auto for the vehicle, general liability for customers and venues, property or inland marine for the kitchen build-out and equipment, and workers’ compensation if you have staff. Events will ask for a certificate naming them as additional insured.

Only if it is insured properly. Standard commercial auto physical damage can depreciate a built-out truck heavily. Agreed-value or stated-amount cover, with the kitchen equipment scheduled, is what gets you back on the road.

Yes, and it is almost never included in a standard policy for a business that sells alcohol. If you pour at events, or operate at a venue where you serve, it needs to be added deliberately.
